Wart removal in Sheffield

Warts are small, rough growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They often appear on the hands, fingers, knees and around the nails. They're usually harmless, but they can be unsightly, catch on clothing, feel sore and keep coming back.

I'm Dr Harriet Smith MBChB MPH, and I offer doctor-led assessment and Swift® microwave treatment for common warts at my private clinic on Ecclesall Road South, Sheffield, with home visits available.

Warts I see

  • Common warts on hands, fingers and knees

  • Warts around and under the edges of the nails (periungual warts)

  • Plantar warts and verrucas on the feet

  • Warts that haven't responded to over-the-counter treatments or freezing

I don't treat genital or facial warts. If you have these, please speak to your GP or a sexual health clinic.

How Swift treatment works for warts

Swift delivers short bursts of microwave energy through a small probe, heating the wart tissue. It's designed to help your immune system recognise the virus. Sessions are quick, there are no dressings, and you can usually return to normal activities straight away. A course of treatments is usually needed, and results vary between people.

Price

Consultation £45. Single Swift session £150 (consultation fee deducted). Recommended course of 3 sessions with pre- and post-treatment consultations: £450. See all prices

Wart FAQs

Are warts contagious?

Yes, they can spread through direct contact or shared items such as towels. Avoid picking or biting them.

Can you treat warts around the nails?

Often, yes. I'll assess whether Swift is suitable for the exact location.

Will it leave a scar?

Swift doesn't involve cutting, and scarring is uncommon. I'll talk you through any risks at your assessment.

When should I see a GP instead?

If a growth bleeds, changes colour or shape, grows quickly, or you're not sure it's a wart, get it checked. I'll also tell you if I think something needs a different assessment.
