Verruca and wart treatment for children
Verrucas and warts are very common in children, especially once they start swimming lessons, PE and sports clubs. They're usually harmless, but they can be sore, upsetting and hard to shift.
As a doctor and a parent, I know children (and parents!) can feel anxious about treatment. I take my time, explain everything in a child-friendly way and never rush.
Should my child's verruca be treated?
Many children's verrucas clear on their own over time, so leaving them alone is a reasonable choice. Treatment may be worth considering if the verruca is painful, spreading, stopping your child from doing activities, or hasn't cleared after home treatments. I'll give you honest advice, including if I think waiting is the better option.
Is Swift suitable for children?
I treat children, and Swift is used for children in UK clinics. Each burst causes a brief, sharp heat lasting a couple of seconds, so suitability depends on your child's age, the verruca's location and how comfortable they feel. I'll discuss this with you and your child before going ahead. I treat children aged 10 and over.

Children's verruca FAQs
Can my child still go swimming?
Yes. A waterproof plaster or verruca sock is sensible to help stop it spreading.
Will my child need time off school?
Usually not. Most children carry on as normal straight after treatment.
Does my child need to come with a parent?
Yes, a parent or legal guardian must attend and give consent for under-16s.
What if my child gets upset?
That's completely fine. We can pause, stop, or rebook. I'll never push a child to continue.
